With more than 100 lots that include paintings and drawings made from the 14th century to the late 18th century, Cambi Casa d'Aste presents on Thursday, Nov. 30, in the historic Genoese venue of Castello Mackenzie the appointment dedicated to Old Masters, curated by the Department of Old Master Paintings and Drawings.

The department, third in terms of sales in the first half of the year, which with the Procession of the Magi by the Master of Marradi sold for €137,000 and entered the maison's top ten, offers a catalog of 105 lots in total, including a refined caricature in pen, brown ink and watercolor on paper by Giambattista Tiepolo (estimate: €2,000 - €3. 000), a perfect example of the master's inventive genius, who by showing the faults of his fellow Venetians wanted to strike a Venice in great decline; a pair of still lifes with vases of flowers by Mario Nuzzi, known as Mario dei Fiori because of his predilection for floral subjects, whose cultural and scientific sophistication earned him important commissions and collaborations for great Roman noble families, from the Barberini to the Chigi, the Colonna to the Rospigliosi (estimate: €15,000 - €20,000).

We also report a particularly interesting Parnassus, attributed to a painter of the circle of the Fontainebleau School with a rich tempietto frame (estimate: €30,000 - €40,000), and a Winter Landscape with Skaters attributed to Jan Brueghel the Elder and Joos De Momper the Younger (estimate: €20. 000 - €25,000); known as Jan Brueghel of the Velvets for the refinement of his compositions, the painter was often commissioned to deal with background landscapes in the works of others, as with De Momper.

Among the top lots are an Escape to Egypt by Gregorio De Ferrari, a Genoese painter considered the precursor of the Rococo style in Italy (estimate: €50,000 - €60,000), a Holy Family by Giulio Cesare Procaccini, one of the greatest exponents of the Lombard Baroque school, whose works are part of important Italian and international collections, from Castello Sforzesco to Brera, from the Metropolitan Museum in New York to the Hermitage in St. Petersburg (estimate: €50,000 - €60,000). And again Giuseppe venduto a Putifarre by Gaspare Diziani, one of the most important painters of the 18th century Veneto, a pupil of Sebastiano Ricci and also famous for his extraordinary theater sets (estimate €50,000 - €60,000).

Finally, regarding the work Soldier with Drum by Ubaldo Gandolfi (estimate: €40,000 - €60,000), expert Donatella Biagi Maino in an excerpt from the catalog states, "It is a small, stunning proof of the absolutely exceptional talent of Gandolfi, who does not yield, in terms of freshness of rendering, to the most famous French painting of the time. It is a work that we might call surprising if Ubaldo had not accustomed us to such astonishment, to the exuberance of the brush that etches the material, to the bright and shining color."
